Training may not always be the right answer for a business need (Bee and Bee 1994). Smith and Delaheye (1998, p. 9; cited by Bee and Bee 1994) argued about the word ‘training’ in the TNA. They proposed to avoid the word ‘training’ and to perform a Need Analysis. Lack of skills or knowledge may one of the reasons of ‘performance gap’ (Regalbuto 1992, p. 30; cited by Bee and Bee 1994); there may be other reasons that may not be related to training at all. Buckley and Caple (2000) suggested a very simple model (figure: 2.7) to differentiate between the performance problems and their solutions. This agreed with most of the authors who argued that training is not the only solutions for all performance problems.
